Isaac went on vacation. He worked late the night before and he built a small “sculpture” on my desk – right in front of my monitor – with all my left-over coffee cups and soda cans. It was about two feet high. (Hey, I was busy.) Oh, and yeah, he did it to Jill too. (Her’s was a lot bigger.)

The following excerpt is from an excellent book titled Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug. (Thanks Elizabeth!) The subtitle of the book is A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability.
We all know happy talk when we see it: It’s the introductory text that’s supposed to welcome us to the site and tell us how great it is, or to illustrate what we’re about to see in the section we’ve just entered.”
If you’re not sure whether something is happy talk, there’s one sure-fire test: If you listen very closely while you’re reading it, you can actually hear a tiny voice in the back of your head saying, ‘Blah blah blah blah blah…’”
A lot of happy talk is the kind of self-congratulatory promotional writing that you find in badly written brochures. Unlike good promotional copy, it conveys no useful information, and it focuses on saying how great we are, as opposed to delineating what makes us great.”
This is a great principle to use whether you are writing for a website or a brochure.
Autumn Gold is ARC’s biggest fund-raising event of the year. This year’s theme was “A Gold Medal Performance” and it was to dedicate a new gymnasium and celebrate four outstanding athletes and coaches from American River College.

The Adam Bom Sqwad placed 42 in a field of 54 Corporate Relay Teams. It was our first California International Marathon and it was the… Bom.
Here’s the rundown… Isaac was faster than hell; 8 minute miles. (My threats apparently worked.) Mary ran exceptionally, considering she wasn’t even training. (She’s a true ringer – If she was training seriously, she could probably do a 6-minute mile, maybe faster.) For Jill it was just a regular Sunday outing (she just finished a half marathon a couple of weeks before), and in spite of my screaming at her all along the route, she wasn’t even breathing hard when she came in.
