Next time you’re eating extruded particulates for breakfast, ask yourself: How do they make these things?
Pacific Grain Products, International is a food ingredients company. Rice flour was originally their main product, but now they produce all kinds of grain-based food ingredients. This includes a vast array of particulates, which are used in all kinds of breakfast foods, protein bars, and snacks.
They wanted an advertising program that promoted their advanced extrusion technology. The food scientists kept saying, “Look, we’re artists. We can make a crisp rice into any shape, size, color, form, consistency, formulation, quantity, function, or application. We’ve turned particulate extrusion technology into a fine art.”
So we came up with the idea of a series of ads featuring the art of famous artists – using PGP’s extruded particulates as the medium, i.e., “Cheerio” art.
It was another crazy, fun project that required everyone’s participation. The large-scale artwork was built by hand with Elmer’s Glue on poster board. Then off to the photographer, Bill Santos, for a beautiful shot. C’est magnifique!
We’re still waiting to do a Mondrian, a Seurat, a Picasso, and Lee’s personal favorite… Miro!
