FourEnergy – Energy Resources for Educators. 4E is partnership of California EWD programs and community colleges, universities and high schools. The focus is on renewable solar, wind, geothermal and bioenergy courses and curriculums.
This site is primarily for educators – providing them with essential curricula, contacts, links and resource materials.
Phillips Design was initially contracted with the identity, stationery, presentation folder and a newsletter. The client wanted a vibrant and exciting, easily recognized image and a color scheme to match. Slightly “twisted” primaries, with a warm supporting gray, do the job.
Once Phillips Design comes up with a color scheme, we don’t mess around – large solids and multiple color combinations add up for a bold, dynamic look.

We also came up with the byline:
Explore Technologies
Create Solutions
Train the Workforce
Improve California”
The newsletter is tabloid size; When open, it folds out to a whopping 22″ x 17″. Unusual illustrations and hand-drawn pull quotes add interest.
Other projects included banner stands (shown at right) and the website.
A primary requirement for the website was ease of use and a simple and clear navigation system. Content management allows for client updates and there is a password-protected, educator-only section.
The website also makes extensive use of Google maps for training and partner locations. These map locations can be edited by multiple people through their Google account, and besides addresses, phone numbers and links to other websites, can feature photos and even videos! Very efficient, makes complex map updating easy.
